Suggested resources and reading when starting out on your health journey

There is a LOT of information available these days about nutrition and general well being – not just the traditional sources like a book or magazine, but now social media and the wonderful world wide web is overflowing with information, and much of it contradicting each other. How are we to know what works, which are reliable sources, what is independently researched and funded, and how can we identify which of the latest fad diets are focused only on fast weight loss at the expense of your health?

I’ve found some great resources throughout my health journey that I’d love to share with you and highly recommend…


The China Study – Professor T. Colin Campbell

This book is life-changing, if I had to use 2 words to describe it. Professor Campbell details the connection between nutrition and heart disease, diabetes, and cancer. The China Study is recognised as the most comprehensive nutritional study ever conducted on the relationship between diet and the risk of developing disease. It examines the source of nutritional confusion produced by government entities, lobbies, and opportunistic scientists. The science is clear: if you want to be healthy, change your diet.


Food Matters

The filmmakers for ‘Food Matters’ and ‘Hungry for Change’ (highly recommend) have created an amazing resource that is FMTV. It is the Netflix for health and wellness: an online subscription channel that offers a growing library of over 350 health and wellness documentaries, expert interviews, recipe videos and more.

This documentary is an inspiring journey that one couple took in search of answers to help a beloved family member who was suffering with chronic illness. Fed up with the medications, side effects of the medications, and various medical professionals unable to address the cause of illness, this couple travelled the world on their life savings in search of answers. Through interviewing various doctors, nutritionists, scientists, and wellness experts throughout the world, they were able to learn and help their loved one recover his health through the age-old adage “you are what you eat”.

The Best Speech You Will Ever Hear – Gary Yourofsky

This video changed me. It spoke to my heart, my brain and my soul. Gary covers the nutritional, environmental and ethical reasons in favour of a plant-based diet. (I had to skip some of the videos of how animals were treated in the farming industries; I have seen similar documentaries before and find them too upsetting and confronting to watch – I recommend you do the same if you prefer not to view those either). The content is highly valuable, knowledgeable and moving.

Burzynski – The Movie (Part 1 & 2) – Dr. Stanislaw Burzynski (also available to view on FMTV)
